Stephen Curry has had a pretty good career so far in his first two years in Golden State. His rookie year he averaged 17.5 points per game, and last year he ended up with 18.6 points per game. Curry is best known for his sweet stroke. In his first two years he is shooting 43.9 percent from three.
Curry is happy in Golden State for now, but who knows when his free agency is up where he will be headed. One of those places could be Charlotte for a ton of reasons. Curry grew up in Charlotte; he played his college basketball at Davidson University, which is near Charlotte. Curry told Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer, his thoughts about playing in Charlotte.
“Of course I’d like to play here - it’s home and I know a lot of people. But that doesn’t mean I’m trying to get out of Golden State,” Curry said Thursday in a wide-ranging interview with the Observer.
“There’s no reason I would not want to play in Charlotte. Maybe the pressure of being around family all the time would affect some people, but I wouldn’t be opposed to any of that.”
Who wouldn’t want to play in their hometown, I think it would be great. The Charlotte Bobcats still need that face of the franchise they haven’t had one yet. Owner Michael Jordan is who you first talk about with the Bobcats.
Right now Curry is at Davidson during the lockout working on his sociology degree. Curry and his wife just bought a house in Weddington, North Carolina. They plan to use this house as their primary house. Curry will rent an apartment in San Francisco. Just another sign that this could happen someday. He won’t be a free agent until 2015.
Curry’s father is a TV analyst for the Bobcats.
I really hope this happens, the Bobcats need that star and a local kid would be ten times better. By the sounds of it the Bobcats are also going to go after another North Carolina native Chris Paul, who is a free agent after this year.
