In last night’s game 1 of the NBA finals Kevin Durant was a man among boys. The Heat had no answer for the scoring champ. Durant finished the game with 36 points on 12 of 20 shooting from the field. Four of those field goals were three pointers. Durant also added 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Two of Durant’s 36 points came on a highlight real dunk.
With the Thunder trailing by 10 near the end of the 2nd quarter Durant knew that he needed to get the crowd going. Durant took a pass from Russell Westbrook near the three point line. Durant than beat Joel Anthony off the dribble and headed to the basket. Durant took two dribble then threw down a monster dunk on Anthony and Chris Bosh who tried to get in Durant’s way. Wow what a poster dunk by Durant on Bosh and Anthony. This no doubt gave the Thunder energy heading into halftime.
With the Thunder only having a one point lead heading into the 4th quarter it was time for Kevin Durant takeover and boy did he ever do so. Durant scored 17 points in the 4th on 6 of 10 shooting from the field. He also was 4 for 4 from the foul line. He almost outscored the Miami Heat who had 21 points total as a team in the 4th.
The only player to score more points in their first NBA finals game (since the ABA- NBA merger) was Allen Iverson, who had 48 points.
The Heat had no answer for Durant they tried multiple defenders on him but no one could shut him down. HE is such a hard player to guard because he can score in a multiple of ways. First Durant is such a great shooter and his height makes it hard to block and get a hand in his face. He can also beat you off the dribble and threw it down.
