With the game close entering the 4th quarter it was time for Kevin Durant to take over and boy did he ever take over the game. Playing in his 1st NBA finals game Oklahoma City Thunder superstar was unstoppable. As the Thunder beat the Miami Heat in Game 1 105-94. The Heat had no answer for the scoring champ. Durant finished the game with 36 points on 12 of 20 shooting from the field. 4 of those field goals were three pointers. Durant also added 8 rebounds and 4 assists.
With the Thunder only having a one point lead heading into the 4th quarter it was time for Kevin Durant takeover and boy did he ever do so. Durant scored 17 points in the 4th on 6 of 10 shooting from the field. He also was 4 for 4 from the foul line. He almost outscored the Miami Heat who had 21 points total as a team in the 4th.
The only player to score more points in their first NBA finals game (since the ABA- NBA merger) was Allen Iverson, who had 48 points.
The Heat had no answer for Durant they tried multiple defenders on him but no one could shut him down. He is such a hard player to guard because he can score in a multiple of ways. First Durant is such a great shooter and his height makes it hard to block and get a hand in his face. He can also beat you off the dribble and threw it down.
Thunder head coach Scott Brooks on Durant.
“We showed a lot of toughness in the second half, but we’ve just won one game. K.D. (Durant) is a terrific player but he’s special because he defends. In our huddles it’s all about defense.”
Right now there is no question that Durant is the best closer in the game. That’s why I gave him a slight edge over James in this series. Durant has the killer instinct and clutch gene than James lacks. Durant has already hit a couple game winning shots in this postseason.
