You can put all those rumors on the back burner of Connecticut head coach Jim Calhoun retiring. As the Huskies continue to roll on the recruiting trail. A couple of days ago the Huskies added DeAndre Daniels a top player for the class of 2011.
Today the Huskies add a top player from the class of 2012 in Omar Calhoun, and no he is not related to Jim Calhoun. Calhoun, is a 6 foot 5 shooting guard from the Christ the King school in New York City. His high school team is a power in the world of high school basketball, current NBA star Lamar Odom went to the same school.
Calhoun is tearing it up on the AAU circuit. He led the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League in scoring. He averaged 25 points per game in a total of 15 games.
Calhoun is ranked the 32nd best player by Rivals.com for the class of 2012. Calhoun, is a deadly three point shooter, that is the first thing you notice from him when you watch him on film. He is a big time scorer. He really excels at running off screens catching the ball than shooting. He also has a solid mid range game. He needs to work on his ball handling skills, and his ability to get to the rim.
Calhoun is the first commit for UConn for the class of 2012, but it is still very early and UConn is in the running for many top prospects including Andre Drummond who is considered the best player in the class of 2012. Drummond plays high school basketball in the state of Connecticut.
