The Boston Celtics and Rajon Rondo had a rough start to the playoffs in their game 1 match up against the Atlanta Hawks. The Hawks had the lead throughout the game and they with stood a late comeback by the Celtics.
With under two game two go in the game Rondo let his emotions once again get the best of him. There was a scrabble for a loose ball with both teams going hard after the ball but the Celtics Brandon Bass was called for a foul something Rondo didn’t agree with. The officials gave Rondo an immediate technical for arguing the play, but Rondo continued to go on. Next thing you know Rondo chest bumped the official still arguing the call. That is a no no to make contact with an official. For that Rondo was ejected from the game and will be suspended for game 2. Bumping an official is an automatic 1 game suspension.
Rondo has to learn to control his emotions better. He was already was suspended this season for 2 games after throwing the basketball at an official after he didn’t like the call.
Rondo talked after the game.
Obviously I was upset about the call; I said some words to Marc. I deserved the first tech. As I was walking, I thought he stopped. My momentum carried me into him. I even think I tripped on his foot. I didn’t intentionally chest-bump him. But that’s what it appears to be.”
“Obviously, from a competitive standpoint we are disappointed with the league’s decision to suspend Rondo,” Celtics coach Doc Rivers said following announcement of the suspension. “He plays a valuable part in our team’s success. We accept the punishment and will use it as a learning tool for our players.”
