5 Breakthrough players in the NBA

Published on February 7, 2012 by Scott Shirley   ·   1 Comment

This NBA season is about 1/3 of the way in. So who are some breakthrough players so far this NBA season. We all know about the Bryant’s and Rose’s but find out some breakthrough players below.

1. LaMarcus Aldridge (Portland) – Aldridge has taken his game to the next level this season. Aldridge has earned a right to make the United States Olympic team this summer. This season Aldridge is averaging 23.7 points per game that is 6 point more than his career average. Aldridge is also bringing down 8.7 rebounds per game that is 1.2 more than his career average. Aldridge has also become a lot better passer this season as he is averaging 2.8 assists per game.

2. Ty Lawson (Denver) – Lawson is now running the show in Denver he is not sharing any minutes with other point guards. Lawson is probably the fastest point guard endline to endline in the NBA. Lawson is avenging 15.5 points per game this season about 4.5 more points than his career average. Lawson has also improved his assist numbers this season; he is averaging 6.4 assists per game about 2 more assists per game than his career average. Lawson is also averaging more steals and rebounds per game. The only thing the Lawson is struggling with this season is his three point shooting.

3. Ryan Anderson (Orlando) – Anderson has turned him into the Magic’s second player behind Dwight Howard. Anderson is a very very deadly shooter. This season he is making about 3 threes per game that is about 1.5 more than his career average. He is also shooting 42 % from deep this season that is about 3 % better than his career average. So to no shock Anderson is averaging about 16 points per game this season. That is about 6 points better than his career average. Anderson has also improved his all around game especially his rebounding.

4. Ricky Rubio (Minnesota)- A big reason why the Timberwolves have turned it around this season is because of flashy point guard Ricky Rubio who has given them the boost they needed. A lot of people didn’t expect much from Rubio in his first season after coming from Spain, but he has proved the doubters wrong this season. For the season Rubio is averaging 11.4 points, 8.9 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 2.2 steals. The only thing Rubio needs to work on his jump shooting. One thing for sure is that Rubio is a must watch every night.

5. Greg Monroe (Detroit) – Monroe is about the only positive for the Pistons this season. He is having a breakthrough sophomore season. So far this season Monroe is averaging 16.3 points per game last season he only averaged 9.4. Monroe is nearly averaging a double double this season he is averaging 9.9 rebounds and he will likely average a double double by the end of the season. Last season he only averaged about 7.5 rebounds per game. Monroe was a great passing big guy in college and he is starting to show that this season in the NBA as he is averaging 2.5 assists per game.
