Kendrick Perkins Calls out LeBron James for tweet about Griffin’s dunk

Published on February 9, 2012 by Scott Shirley   ·   No Comments

Oklahoma City Thunder center Kendrick Perkins did not say much after he got dunked on by Blake Griffin. However, one thing he did not like is what NBA superstar LeBron James tweeted after the Griffin dunk on Perkins. Here is what James Tweeted.

“Dunk of the Year! @blakegriffin just dunked on Kendrick Perkins so hard!!! Wow! I guess I’m No. 2 now. Move over #6.”

James is talking his dunk where he basically jumped over John Lucas for the alley oop dunk.

In an interview with Yahoo Sports Perkins did not like the tweet by James.

“You don’t see Kobe [Bryant] tweeting,” Perkins said. “You don’t see Michael Jordan tweeting. If you’re an elite player, plays like that don’t excite you. At the end of the day, the guys who are playing for the right reasons who are trying to win championships are not worrying about one play.

“They also are not tweeting about themselves talking about going down to No. 2. I just feel [James] is always looking for attention and he wants the world to like him.”

James then responded to being called out by Perkins.

“From day one, that’s why I got to Twitter, to connect to my fans. I would never apologize for anything like that when I’m connecting with my fans.”

“I can see why he may have felt embarrassed. I don’t think I was the only one that reacted to that unbelievable play by Blake, and that’s what it was all about, me acknowledging how great of a play it was. If Kendrick Perkins had dunked on somebody else on the other end, I would have done the same thing.

“I’m an easy target, let’s leave it at that.”

I kind of agree with Perkins. Lets just compare James and Bryant real quick.

Bryant’s got the rings , intensity and leadership than James doesn’t have. Bryant is also is clutch as they come; I don’t know how many game winning shots he has hit. James does not have that killer instinct.

Mike Brown is his first year of head coach of the Los Angeles is getting to see for himself what Bryant is all about. Brown also was the coach of the Cleveland when James was there.

So no better person to compare the two than Brown. Thanks to Kevin Ding of the Orange County register for the quotes.

“There’s just a different feel to the two guys,” Brown said….

“LeBron is a guy who is still learning and still growing, and the reality of it is that being down there with Dwyane Wade has helped him,” Brown said. “They’re different personalities. LeBron, he’s a guy who likes to laugh and joke. He knows obviously there’s a time to be serious, but he’s youthful.

“Kobe is not as much. Kobe’s more serious-minded and so on and so forth. But Kobe knows how to have fun in his own way, too.”

Most of us already knew this and Brown just confirmed it. Bryant is just a more intense player. If James took things a little more serious would he have a ring? Who knows maybe. I know this if he wants to get a ring and be a leader he has to take things a little more serious. James should follow Bryant’s lead.
