DeAndre Daniels has finally committed somewhere, after a long road that saw many twists and turns. Daniels committed to the University of Connecticut this week. Daniels is a 6 foot 7 forward from Bradenton Florida’s IMG Academy. Daniels is in the class of 2011 meaning he can play this season for the Huskies.
In the next couple of paragraphs I will try to explain the long road of Daniels recruitment. First in July of 2009 Daniels committed to play for Texas, and at that time he was playing high school basketball in the state of California. Then for what ever reason Daniels de committed from Texas in August of 2010. Then for that school year he decided to play high school basketball in Florida.
Then Christian Garrett one of Daniels good friends from AAU basketball decided to walk on and play for Kansas. Many thought then Daniels would go to Kansas, that was Kansas’s idea get the package deal, but Daniels did not commit to KU.
Next Duke got involved with Daniels, there where reports that he may have even committed to Duke. However that was not the case, even Duke star point guard Kyrie Irving said that Daniels was coming to Duke. Star forward Alex Murphy decided to commit to Duke late, this probably made up his mind up not to go to Duke, because they play the same position.
Then finally this week Daniels committed to the defending national champs the UConn Huskies. Throughout the recruiting process Daniels really didn’t list UConn as a top school. He must have reached out to them and they accepted him.
Daniels is ranked the 29th best player in the class of 2011 by Scout.com. He is can 6 foot 7 small forward who can do it all. The first thing you notice when watching Daniels on film is his athletic ability. He has some serious ups. He also has serious 3-point range, he can shoot it with the best of them. He is very versatile, and he can play inside or on the perimeter. He needs to work on his ball handling, and his ability to create his own shot.
Look for Daniels to come in right away and succeed for the Huskies. He is your typical UConn small forward.
