The Boston Celtics are off to the second round thanks to 83-80 win over the Atlanta Hawks. The star of this game for the Celtics was Kevin Garnett, who finished the game with 28 points, 14 rebounds, 5 blocks, 3 steals, and 2 assists. Talk about filling out the stat sheet.
Garnett was surely motivated after the Hawks co-owner Michael Gearon Jr. called Garnett the dirtiest player in the league this week. When Gearon Jr. said this, I said right away that was a stupid thing to say.
In tonight’s press conference after the game before answering the first question, Garnett called out the Hawks owner.
“First off, I want to say thank you to the (Hawks) owner for giving me some extra gas tonight,” Garnett said. “My only advice to him is next time he opens his mouth, actually know what he’s talking about — X’s and O’s versus checkbooks and bottom lines.”
Gearon Jr. called Garnett, a dirty player while speaking at an event. Gearon Jr. was the featured speaker at the Third Annual Art of It Luncheon at the Piedmont Park Conservancy. Here is what he said to say thanks for the quotes from the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
“On top of all that, we don’t get any calls, which I know everybody always hears. But I’ll give you a stat. Last night, we are playing this old physical team. They are old. I know what happens when you play basketball, old guys foul. [Kevin] Garnett is the dirtiest guy in the league. We are playing Boston last night and they had two fouls the whole first half. We had five times that and we’re athletic.”
I know one thing for sure Gearon Jr. would take Garnett on his team in a heartbeat.
