The All Star game is now over and the second half is about to begin. Today , I will look back at the top 5 plays from the 1st half of the NBA season. Check them out below.
1. Blake Griffin Posterizes Perkins
Every time Blake Griffin has a highlight real dunk you have to think he can’t out do the latest dunk but he can. This was the case when the Los Angeles Clippers played host to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Here is how the play unfolded. Griffin set a pick for Chris Paul, then Griffin rolls to the hoop, and Paul gives Griffin a bounce pass then Griffin does his magic. Griffin literary jumps over and dunks on Oklahoma City Thunder center Kendrick Perkins. Griffin just posterizes Perkins. He threw down this dunk with some authority. Poor Perkins, he is one of the better defenders in the leagues.
So far this has to be the best dunk this NBA season and it’s not even close. It’s hard to say but that might be Griffin’s best dunk in his young NBA career. He is just so explosive, athletic, powerful, and so many other words to describe him. He dunks with vengeance.
2. LeBron James dunks over John Lucas
LeBron James had 35 points and 11 rebounds but all anyone will talk about after the game was James alley oop dunk.
Now back to what everyone is talking about James dunk. The Heat had the ball near the three point line and James is standing on the wing when Mario Chalmers sets a brush screen for James. James goes straight to the basket when he is thrown an alley oop. James literally jumps over the Bulls John Lucas and throws down the alley oop with one hand.
Bill Simmons tweeted the following
I can’t stop watching this LeBron dunk. Will be interesting to see if, over time, it cracks the short list of iconic NBA dunks along with Chambers over KJ, Jordan over Ewing, Doc over Cooper, Kemp over Gatling, etc.
3. Rudy Fernandez increbile tip
The Los Angeles Clippers beat the Denver Nuggets but the play the ended the 3rd quarter is what I will remember from this game.
Time was ticking down in the 3rd quarter when Corey Brewer of the Denver Nuggets threw up a wild shot from half court. The shot was way off back Rudy Fernandez tip the ball into the basket before time ran out. The shot was going way to the right but Fernandez had the skill to tip in towards the basket and it went in. Fernandez who is a righty tip the ball in with his left hand.
4. Iguodala passes off the backboard to himself for the dunk
Washington Wizards JaVale McGee got ripped by his coach, because on a breakaway he passed it off the backboard and dunked it himself. Philadelphia 76ers high flyer Andre Iguodala did the same thing but his was not on a breakaway it was in traffic. Making it that more impressive.
Iguodala rebounded a Detroit Pistons miss and took off with the ball leading the 76ers on a 3 on 2 fast break. Instead of passing the ball to one of the wings Iguodala passed the ball off the backboard to himself and took the pass off the backboard and threw down the dunk. This should be no surprise Iguodala is one of the best athletes and dunkers in the NBA.
5. Dwyane Wade’s fullcourt alley oop pass
Off a Danny Graner miss the Miami Heat decided to play a little bit of football. Dwyane Wade rebounded the ball right under the basket and spotted LeBron James running towards their basket.
Wade then threw a football pass the full length of the court to James who laid it in for a layup. That was a perfect pass from Wade.
