Derrick Rose Denies rumors that he asked for Pau Gasol trade

There is no question that Pau Gasol is on the trading block. Gasol has already been traded to the Houston Rockets in a three way deal, but David Stern canceled the trade because it wasn’t fair for the league owned New Orleans Hornets. Even last week there was a trade rumor they would send Gasol to Minnesota for Derrick Williams.

Now SheridanHoops.com is reporting that Chicago Bulls star point guard Derrick Rose would like to play with Gasol.

The following from SheridanHoops.com.

“He hasn’t said so publicly, but he has made that known privately,” said the source, who spoke to SheridanHoops.com on condition of anonymity.

Rose responded to the rumors that he ask for a Pau Gasol trade and that Carlos Boozer would likely be the player headed back to the Lakers. Thanks to the quotes from CSNChicago.com

“I heard it after the game [on Monday] and that’s something that I wouldn’t say to anyone,” said Rose. “It was all false and that’s something I’ll never do. I’m good with the teammates that I have. I’ve always been saying that. We’ve been winning games and we’re not in the position to look to trade anyone right now.

“I talked to [Boozer] a little bit, but I think he already knew that [the rumor] was false,” continued Rose. “It’s something that I wouldn’t do to anyone. It was all false.”

If the Bulls would get Gasol somehow, this would add another dimension to the Bulls team. The Bulls could use a 7-foot center that knows how to score in the post. That is one of the Bulls weakness low post scoring. I can’t even imagined Gasol playing with Rose. Gasol points per game averaged would go up playing with an elite point guard.

So if the Bulls where to trade for Gasol who would they give up? My guess would be Carlos Boozer and a backup point guard. The Lakers could really use a backup point guard. If this was the trade this would really benefit the Bulls and I am sure Lakers star Kobe Bryant would not be happy with this trade. What would make Bryant happy if this is step one in a serious of Lakers of trades, maybe somehow they can get Dwight Howard.

Kobe Bryant has called out Lakers management and he demanded the Lakers tell Gasol if he is on the trading block are not.

This is Gasol’s 12 year in the NBA, and this season he is averaging his career low in points per game in season. So far this season Gasol is averaging 16.6 points per game. For his career Gasol averages 18.7 points per game. Sure it could be because of new head coach Mike Brown’s offensive system but I think the trade talk has to do a lot of his down play.

Lakers GM released a statement about Gasol.

“As a former player, I understand how the days leading up to the trade deadline can be nerve-wracking for an NBA player. Nonetheless, as General Manager of the Lakers, I have a responsibility to ownership, our fans and the players on this team to actively pursue opportunities to improve the team for this season and seasons to come. To say publicly that we would not do this would serve no purpose and put us at a competitive disadvantage. Taking such a course of action at this time would be a disservice to ownership, the team and our many fans.”

I would love to see Gasol in a Bulls uniform this would only make Derrick Rose better. This could give the edge to the Bulls to win the Eastern Conference over the Miami Heat.
