Indiana Basketball is back: Knock off #1 Kentucky

Published on December 11, 2011 by Scott Shirley   ·   1 Comment

Indiana has been horrible under Tom Crean in his three years at IU, and that is being kind. Indiana is 28-66 in Crean’s three years at Indiana. So far his 2011 team is for real, and the rest of the college basketball world better watch out after Indiana beat #1 Kentucky 73 to 72 on Saturday. They won on a buzzer beater three pointer by Christian Watford. Coming into the game I was skeptical of the Hoosiers because they didn’t really beat a good team in their 8-0 start. Now after beating Kentucky, there is no doubt in my mind the Hoosiers are a NCAA tournament team this season.

As for Kentucky this was their first true test on the road and it showed. The Wildcats are young and this will only back them better in the end.

My thoughts on the game.

- Christian Watford is the Hoosiers best player and he showed why in this one. For the game he had 20 points including 4 threes. His biggest shot was the game winner. Watford also added 5 rebounds.

- Victor Oladipo knows how to get to the rim and finish. He throw down a monster dunk on a Kentucky player. He also knows how to get to the line. He also brought down 7 rebounds.

- Jordan Hulls might be the best pure shooter in college basketball. Hulls hit 3 threes in the game. He also dished out 5 assists.

- Freshman stud Cory Zeller also had a solid game with 11 points and 7 rebounds. The Indiana players need to do a better job of feeding him the ball.

- Will Sheehey scored all of Indiana’s 10 bench points. He brought great energy.

- For the game Indiana shoot 60% (9-15) from three that’s lights out. The only negative for Indiana from this game was the turnovers they had 18 of them. At times they were playing too fast.

-As for Kentucky only 3 players showed up. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist was unstoppable at getting to the rim with his strength. For the game he had 18 points on 9 of 12 shooting. He also added 9 rebounds.

-Doron Lamb added 19 points, including 7 from the free throw line. Marquis Teague scored 15 points for Kentucky on 6 of 11 shooting from the floor.

-I have no idea what happened to Terrence Jones in this one. At some times it looked like he didn’t want to play. For the game he had 4 points, 6 turnovers, and only 1 rebound.

-Kentucky stud freshman Anthony Davis struggled with foul trouble with hurt his production. He needs to be under better control. He did add 9 rebounds though.

- Kentucky really has no bench except for Darius Miller.

-Kentucky continues to struggle with turnover they had 16 of them. I thought this was a good three point shooting Kentucky team, but in this game they only made 2 of them.
