Heat going to the Finals: James and Wade Clutch Rose not

Published on May 28, 2011 by Scott Shirley   ·   No Comments

The Miami Heat are going to the NBA Finals with a 83-80 win over the Chicago Bulls.  The Heat finished the game on an 18 to 3 run, to win the series 4 games to 1.  Talk about a choke job by the Bulls.  The Heat will play the Dallas Mavericks for the NBA Championship starting on Tuesday.

I was ready to write that the big three for Miami were the little three in game 5. During the 4th quarter though, the big three came alive especially LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. The other part of the big three Chris Bosh was solid throughout with 20 pts and wasn’t really clutch during the 4th quarter, although he hit 2 free throws late.  During the 18-3 run the James and Wade scored 16 of those points.

Wade had 9 turnovers, James missed 9 straight shots, but during the 4th quarter they were clutch.  James scored 12 of his 28 points in the 4th quarter.  James made a three to tie the game, and then he made a jumper that gave the Heat the lead.   He also blocked the game tying three by Derrick Rose.  A lot of people talk about how James isn’t clutch, that wasn’t clutch?  That’s all I hear James isn’t a closer, well I think all James has to do now is win a championship to silent his critics.

Wade scored 10 of his 21 points in the 4th quarter.  The biggest play of the game happened when the Heat were trailing by 7, Wade hit a three and got fouled and made the foul shot.  Earlier in the game Wade was just awful, he was seen holding his shoulder on the bench, but he seemed okay in the 4th quarter.  Wade has nothing to prove, because he already has his ring.  Unlike James everyone already knows Wade is a clutch player.

Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose was not clutch.  In the four losses Derrick Rose shot 4 for 23 from the floor in the 4th quarter, ouch.  Rose missed the tying three at the end of the game, he also missed a key free throw and had 2 late turnovers.  Unlike the big three in Miami, Rose is a one man show in Chicago.  Down the stretch Rose doesn’t have anybody to turn to.  Rose isn’t a great shooter and when he drives to the basket everyone is waiting for him at the rim especially in the 4th quarter because they know he is the most likely option.  During the offseason Rose better work on being a betting shooter because he already has all the speed and athletic ability in the world.
