LeBron and Kobe carry Americans to Victory

Published on August 9, 2012 by Scott Shirley   ·   No Comments

Kobe Bryant has woken up and that is a bad thing for the other teams moving forward. Bryant has is really the only American player that has struggled in these Olympics. Bryant found his touch again in the Americans 119-86 win over Australia in a Quarterfinal match up. Also LeBron James had a monster game what else is new?

Bryant really struggled in the 1st half but in the second half he found his grove. Bryant nailed 6 three pointers in the second half. Four of those three pointer came in a 67-second span in the 4th quarter. Bryant needed a game like this. Hopefully for the Americans sake this will get him going. Bryant also added a two point field goal to finish with 20 points.

“Just kind of searching for something to get me going, for something that would activate the Black Mamba, as Coach calls it,” Bryant said.

“On this team you really get a lot of easy shots because you play with a lot of really good players,” said Bryant. “I just found myself in a really good rhythm with some daylight to shoot the ball, and they were going in for me.”

James finished this game with a triple double becoming the first U.S. player to do so. He finished the game with 11 points, 14 rebounds, and 12 assists. The assists tied the U.S. Olympic single game high. His passing ability is what set James apart from other star players especially for his size.

“I’m proud of the win, that’s all that matters to me,” James said. “I don’t really care about me statistically. The win is more important; I’m happy to be able to move on.”

Deron Williams scored 18 points; Carmelo Anthony added 17 points and Kevin Durant totaled 14 points. Kevin Love finished with a double double 10 points and 11 rebounds.

“We knew that we were going to play a very athletic, quick, well-coached team in Australia, who were coming off a couple of big wins,” said USA head coach Mike Krzyzewski . “They pushed the ball down the court against us well. I thought we played well in the first half, except for we didn’t get back sometimes and they got about 10-12 points in transition.

“We got off to a horrible start in the second-half, and I am proud of my guys because we were playing well in the first-half, got that bad start and then they played great. The offensive rebounding was a key factor. Kevin Love had eight offensive rebounds and our defense picked up. Kobe made a couple big defensive plays that went to the offensive end, and we kind of exploded there,” added Coach K.

Now the U.S. plays Argentina for a third time in a couple of weeks for a right to go to the gold medal game. There is no question that Argentina is not sacred of the Americans. Russia and Spain play in the other match up.
