Could the Dallas Mavericks have a big three of their own next season? One current NBA players thinks so. New Jersey Nets star Deron Williams and Orlando Magic superman Dwight Howard are both free agents after this season.
There is no chance Howard resigns in Orlando and Williams is still up in the air if he will resign with the Nets. Could these two players be playing together next year? Could they team up with Dirk Nowitzki to form their own big three in Dallas?
Tracy McGrady of the Atlanta Hawks told Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports that he could see Williams and Howard playing in Dallas next season.
“I’ve been watching Orlando play, and I think they let it go too far – to where they can’t compete for a championship,” McGrady said. “Dwight’s going to find a sweeter spot for him next year with him being a free agent, with D-Will being a free agent, and Dallas already having an established star there. … Yup, Dallas.”
And then he laughed and said, “You heard it from me first.”
This could happen because the Mavs will have a ton of cap space next year. Mavs owner Mark Cuban did not try to go for a repeat this season. In doing so he leaves a ton of money free fro next year.
After this season Jason Terry and Jason Kidd contracts come off the books. Lamar Odom will likely not be back. The Mavs will probably also have to find a way to get rid of Shawn Marion and Brandon Haywood.
This makes sense for Williams to play for the Mavs because he is a Dallas native. As for Howard he just wants to play with other stars. He would love to play with Williams and Nowitzki.
Can Mark Cuban make this happen we will see?
