In Michigan’s semifinal win over Syracuse, the Wolverines called there final timeout with 1:51 left in the game. Then Michigan found themselves in a similar position.
Twenty years ago Michigan was down to North Carolina late, and Chris Weber dribbled the ball up the court, only to call a timeout when Michigan didn’t have one. Michigan could have tied or won the game. So Michigan received a technical foul and North Carolina went on to win the 1993 national championship.
Just in case the players weren’t aware of the timeout situation, a couple of young fans made a sign to remind the Michigan players of the timeout situation.
Here is what the Michigan players said about the timeouts.
Jordan Morgan:
“In the huddles and on the bench, we all looked at each-other and said, ‘We have no timeouts. No timeouts. We did not want to make that mistake again.”
Nik Stauskas:
“I made sure it was stressed in the timeout. Everyone was saying we had no timeouts left, so we made sure everyone was aware of it.”
