College Basketball National Championship Game Facts

Now that the college basketball season is over, here is some facts from the national championship game in which the Louisville Cardinals beat the Michigan Wolverines in one of the best title games in a while.

Facts

 

- Louisville has become the first school to win the title while representing different conferences since 1985. When they won the title in 86 they were in the Metro Conference. Now that they are heading to the ACC, they can make it 3.

- As the number 1 overall seed Louisville advanced to the final four that makes just 5 out of the last 10 number 1 overall seeds to make the final four. With the win they became just the 3rd number 1 seed to win the title since 2004.

- Michigan could have been the lowest seed to win the Championship since Arizona in 1997.

- Since 1985 17 number 1 seeds have won titles.

- Rick Pitino is the first coach to win an NCAA title at two different schools. His first title came at Kentucky in 1996.

- 10 out of the last 15 champions have won there conference tournament, Louisville won the Big East Tournament

- Just twice out of 36 years has the last unbeaten team in the country won the title. This year it was Michigan.

-Louisville broke a trend of 10th straight teams to win a title with one of their primary colors blue.

- Michigan is now 1-5 in championship games, which is the worst record for teams that have at least 3 appearances in the big game.

- Louisville is now the 8th school to win at least 3 championships.

- In the 75 year history of the NCAA Championships, only 16 times has the team trailing at halftime won the game. 3 of those wins came from the Louisville Cardinals.
