The biggest news out of the first three rounds of the NCAA Tournament has been the success enjoyed by the Florida Gulf Coast University Eagles. Despite their success, teams from around the State of Florida have all added to the NCAA record book this weekend. The FGCU Eagles are the first ever 15th seeded team to advance to the Sweet Sixteen, but that isn’t the only noise teams from Florida made in the start of this year’s tourney.
The Eagles will take on the University of Florida Gators in the next round of the NCAA Tournament. This will be the first time that two teams from the State of Florida will meet each other in the spring tourney.
Additionally, the University of Miami, a team the FGCU Eagles beat early in the regular season have advanced. This is the first time in the history of the tournament that three teams from the State of Florida have advanced to the Sweet Sixteen portion of the competition. Of course, there is only the possibility of two Florida teams facing the possibility of advancing to the Elite Eight after the Eagles and Gators square off on Friday.
