College Basketball Plays 3/9

Published on March 9, 2013 by Scott Shirley   ·   No Comments

Must Plays:

Romero Osby (Oklahoma)- Osby has just been tearing it up lately. I am sure not a lot of people around the country have heard of Osby. In his last 3 games he has scored 31, 22, and 26 points. He should score well over 20 points again versus a very bad TCU team.

P.J. Hairston (North Carolina)- Ever since be inserted into the starting lineup Hairston has been unstoppable. In those 7 games he is averaging 18 ppg. It all started with a game against Duke in which he scored 23 points and brought down 8 boards. Now Hairston gets the Blue Devils at home. Duke will likely put Ryan Kelly on him , so Hairston should have a huge quickness advantage.

Kentavious Caldwell- Pope (Georgia)- Pope is basically the Georgia team. The Bulldogs don’t have another double digit score on their team. He has scored in double figures every game this season, and he has scored over 20 points in 3 straight. Last time out against Alabama he scored 22 points.

Otto Porter Jr. (Georgetown)- Porter is the Hoyas offense. With his play of late he has put his name in the National Player of the Year race. In his last 4 games Porter is averaging 25 ppg and 7 rpg He has scored in double figures in all but 2 games this season. Last time the Hoyas played Syracuse Porter went off scoring 22 points and bringing down 8 rebounds.

Value Plays:

Chris Bolden (Georgia Tech)- The Yellow Jackets are coming off an upset win over Miami, that was mainly because of the play of Bolden. In that game Bolden scored 21 points, including making 4 three pointers. Bolden should have another great game against Boston College who struggle to defender guards.

Ladarius White (Ole Miss)- The freshman has really picked up his play off late. He has scored in double figures in 5 out of his last 8 games. His latest performance was a 17 point effort against a very tough defensive Alabama team.

D.J. Shelton (Washington State)- Shelton is coming off his 2 best games of the season. He scored in double figures in each . Shelton is also a pretty good rebounder he averages around 5 rpg.

Kiel Turpin (Florida State)- Turpin, a freshman is one of the few bright spots on this FSU team recently. He is coming off his best game of the season in which he scored 11 points.

Think About Sitting:

Ryan Kelly (Duke)- All Kelly has done is return from injury and score 36 and 18 points. However both of those game were at home. The Blue Devils never play non-conference games at the opponent’s home gym so Kelly hasn’t played a true road game this season. In his 3 trips to Chapel Hill in previous years he has only scored a combined 17 points. With UNC playing a smaller line up that means a guard will be guarding him, which makes it a ton easier to defend the three.

Michael Carter Williams (Syracuse)- The stud point guard play has dipped at a little late in the season. Last time Carter Williams face Georgetown he only scored 7 points and struggled to run the offense. I don’t like this match up again versus a very tough defensive team.

Julius Mays (Kentucky)- Like Kentucky Mays has struggled of late. In his last 2 games he has scored a combined 3 points and in both of those games he played over 35 minutes.

Injury Update:

Shabazz Napier is questionable for UConn.

Jio Fontan and Ari Stewart are questionable for USC.

Mike Ladd and DaVonte Lacy are both likely out for Washington State.

Will Yeguete and Michael Frazier are back for Florida.

Buddy Hield is out for Oklahoma.

Antonio Barton is out for Memphis.
