College Basketball Daily Plays - 2/23

Published on February 23, 2013 by Scott Shirley   ·   No Comments

Must Plays:

Johnny O’ Bryant III (LSU)- O’ Bryant has been on some kind of tear lately. In his last 4 games he is averaging 21.5 ppg. One of those games was a 30 point effort. He has recorded double digit rebounds in 8 of his last 10 games. Last time out against Alabama he finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds.

Marcus Smart (Oklahoma State)- While he doesn’t get the attention; he is the best true freshman in the country. He has scored 20 plus points in 4 of his last 7 games. Smart fills up the stat sheet. He averages about 6 rpg and 5 apg. Smart rarely comes out the game, he played the whole game the last two times out.

Ben McLemore (Kansas)- When Kansas lost to TCU it was one of the biggest upsets in college basketball history. Now the Jayhawks welcome TCU at home. I think the Jayhawks will just go off in this game, and especially McLemore the Jayhawks best scorer. A week ago he scored 30 points in a win against Kansas State.

Myles Mack (Rutgers)- Yes, a basketball player from Rutgers is a must play. With Eli Carter out with an injury, Mack is the Scarlet Knights only true scorer. In his last two games Mack has put up 28 and 24 points. Last time out he also brought down a season high in rebounds.

Value Plays:

D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera (Georgetown)- The sharp shooting freshman is coming off a monster game in which he scored 33 points. He made 5 three pointers and he played his most minutes off the season. He should get plenty of chances to knock down some threes versus the Syracuse zone.

Connor Lammert (Texas)- All of a sudden Lammert is getting more playing time. While he is averaging under 5 ppg on the season in his last three games he is averaging over 12 ppg. Lammert has played over 30 minutes in 2 of his last 3 games.

Kevin Young (Kansas)- Young is the glue guy for Kansas. He does all the dirty work. If you’re looking for a real cheap option go with Young. He will probably give you 5-10 points and 5-10 rebounds. In his last 5 games Young is averaging 8 ppg and 8 rpg.

Kaleb Tarczewski (Arizona)- The highly though of freshman has really picked his play up of late. Last game against Washington he was just 2 rebounds away from a double double. Last time versus Washington State he finished with 10 points. The Cougars lack a presence in the paint.

Think About Sitting:

Sheldon McClellan (Texas)- Last game McClellan, Texas’ leading scorer played a total of 1 minute. His head coach has made it clear he is not happy with McCellan’s defense.

Alex Poythress (Kentucky)- The talented freshman is in a big time slump. He hasn’t scored in double figures in 6 games.

Wake Forest Team- The Miami Hurricanes are an excellent defensive team. In their last two games they have given up less than 50 points.

Tony Woods (Oregon)- Woods has only scored in double figures in 1 out of his last 10 games. Plus he is in the doghouse with the coaching staff. For a center he gets a low number of rebounds.

Injury update:

Nerlens Noel (Kentucky) is out for the year.
Eli Carter is out for Rutgers
Mike Ladd (Washington State) is a game time decision.
DaJaun Coleman (Syracuse) is still out for a while.
Buddy Hield (Oklahoma) is out with a broken foot.
Brandon Mobley is out for the season for Seton Hall.
Antonio Barton (Memphis) is also out with a broken foot.
Dominic Arits is still likely out for Oregon.
