College Basketball Daily Plays 2/16

Published on February 16, 2013 by Scott Shirley   ·   No Comments

Must Plays:

Richard Howell (North Carolina State)- Howell is a beast in the middle of the paint for the Wolfpack. Howell has always been a dominant rebounder but of late he is scoring. Over his last 7 games he is averaging 15 ppg. In his last two games he is averaging 16 shots attempts. Virginia Tech lacks a post presence and they have given up big games to Mason Plumlee and James Michael McAdoo.

Jake Cooley (Notre Dame)- Cooley has recorded at least 10 points and 10 rebounds in 7 of his last 8 games. He is Mr. consistent. His price is not all that much for what he gives you. Cooley has 19 double doubles this season. He should get another double double against a bad Providence team.

Rodney McGruder (Kansas State)- McGruder is red hot of late. In his last three games he has scored 18, 20, and 22 points. In all 3 of those games he has played over 35 minutes. Last time KSU played Texas they put up 83 points and that was on the road.

Kentavious Caldwell Pope (Georgia)-Pope is the Georgia team. Pope is the only Bulldog averaging in double figures this season. Pope has scored in double figures every game this season. He has gone for over 20 points in 4 out of the last 6 games. He is coming off a 22 point and 8 rebound game.

Markel Brown (Oklahoma State)- Brown is on some kind of tear lately. He has scored over 25 points in 3 out of his last 6 games. He is coming a 25 point effort versus Texas Tech. Last time out again Oklahoma he had 19 points. He is still a little underpriced on some sites out there.

Michael Carter-Williams (Syracuse)- How this player didn’t hardly play at all last season is beyond me. All he is doing this season is leading the nation in assists. Besides being a great passer he can also score the ball. In his last two games he is averaging 16 ppg. With his size he also gets his share of rebounds. Got to like this play against a very bad Seton Hall team.

Value Plays:

Willie Cauley-Stein (Kentucky)- Stein benefits most from the Nerlens Noel injury. He will get all of Noel’s minutes. Stein himself is coming off an injury, and has only been back for 3 games. In those 3 games he is averaging 11.6 ppg and 5.3 rpg.

Casey Prather (Florida)- With the season ending injury to Will Yeguete, Prather is getting more playing time. In the last two games he has averaged 12 ppg and he is playing over 20 minutes. He has also brought down 4 boards. Prather is one of the best athletes on there. He should get his minutes and points versus a very bad Auburn team.

Donnavan Kirk (DePaul)- Kirk is red hot as of late. He is coming off back to back 16 point games. In both of those games Kirk also played over 30 minutes. Kirk is also averaging about 4 rpg. Kirk should have another great game versus a bad Rutgers team at home.

Myck Kabogno (Texas)- Now, that Kabogno has played 1 game; he should now be listed on most sites. All he did in his first game back against Iowa State was score 13 points, dish out 7 assists, and bring down 4 rebounds. Texas fans should be really mad at the NCAA.

Kevin Young (Kansas)- Young is the glue guy for Kansas. He does all the dirty work. If you’re looking for a real cheap option go with Young. He will probably give you 5-10 points and 5-10 rebounds. In his last 4 games Young is averaging 10 ppg and 7 rpg.

Think about Sitting:

Kentucky Freshman- Alex Poythress and Archie Goodwin have struggled of late. Poythress has been in single digits his last 4 games. His minutes keep on going down also. Goodwin has only scored in double figures in 1 out of his last 4 games. Don’t like the match up at Tennessee.

Pitt Marquette Game- Both teams like the slow kind of pace game. So I don’t think a lot of points will be scored here. The only scorer you can trust in this game is Vander Blue. The rest of the players are way too inconsistent.

Julien Lewis (Texas)- With Kagongo returning Lewis’s minutes went down. He played his lowest minutes of the season last time out.

Rodney Purvis (North Carolina State)- The freshman has hit the wall. His last time out he scored 0 points. In the 4 games before that he has only scored in double figures once.

Injury update:

Nerlens Noel (Kentucky) the likely number 1 pick in this year’s NBA draft is out for the season with an ACL injury.

Buddy Hield (Oklahoma) broke his foot and is out for about a month.

Antonio Barton (Memphis) also broke his foot and is for a while.

DaJuan Coleman (Syracuse) is still out.

Will Yeguete (Florida) is out for the year.

Ryan Kelly (Duke) is still out with a foot injury.

Dominic Artis (Oregon) is still probably out.

Scott Martin (Notre Dame) is still out.

Jalen Steele was suspended by Mississippi State.
