There is no question that the Los Angeles Lakers are frustrated. The Lakers are down 3-1 to the Lakers but they very easily could be up 3-1 in the series. Lakers star Kobe Bryant is not happy and after the team’s game 4 loss he had some words for Lakers center Pau Gasol.
Here is what Bryant said after the game.
“Pau’s got to be more assertive,” Bryant said. “He’s the guy they’re leaving [open]. When he’s catching the ball, he’s looking to pass. He’s got to be aggressive. He’s got to shoot the ball or drive the ball to the basket. He will be next game.”
There is no question that Gasol is not being aggressive is this series. He is not looking for his shot and not attacking the rim. Gasol should have a field day against the smaller Thunder frontline but he is not. The Thunders Serge Ibaka is leaving Gasol to double team Andrew Bynum on some plays and still Gasol is not taking advantage of that.
“He’s looking to swing the ball too much,” Bryant said. “He’s got to take his shot.”
Gasol also made the late turnover in game 4 that gave the Thunder the lead. After the turnover Kevin Durant hit the game winning three pointer.
“Just a bad read on Pau’s part,” Bryant said.
Gasol talked after the game.
“It’s one play, one mistake,” Gasol said. “There were a lot of mistakes in that fourth quarter, a lot of mistakes throughout the game. So, obviously, if I could have gone back, maybe I could have shot it and I would have. It’s one play, obviously, at a critical time, but I don’t feel like we lost the game because of one turnover.”
Former Laker Derek Fisher stands at 6” 1’ but Bryant thinks he is much shorter than that. That is what Bryant said after he made a couple of shots over Fisher in game 3.
“Same result as all the times we played one-on-one in the gym,” Bryant said. “I love him, but he’s a midget.”
This is Bryant just having some playful words with his former running mate no problem here. Fisher will get the last laugh when the Thunder advance to the Western Conference Finals.
