Will the Boston Celtics trade Rajon Rondo?

Published on March 9, 2012 by Scott Shirley   ·   No Comments

Boston Celtics star point guard Rajon Rondo just had a 20 point, 18 assist and 17 rebound game yet the Celtics are thinking about trading him. These Rondo rumors even started before the season started. Most of the talk had the Celtics trading for Chris Paul or Stephen Curry. Now, that we are close to the NBA trade deadline the Rondo trade rumors are heating up again.

According to ESPN Boston the Celtics are shopping around Rondo.

The Celtics find Rondo’s personality to be too high-maintenance and his clashes with coach Doc Rivers remain an off-court distraction, sources told Broussard, and the front office is now actively pitching him to other teams. With the Celtics realizing they are no longer title contenders, they don’t believe his point guard prowess is worth the headaches Rondo brings, sources say. And they do not want to build around him.

The potential trade is still being discussed by Boston’s braintrust, but they aren’t sure they want to go forward with it. It also isn’t clear whether the Warriors would be willing to do it. Other players would have to be thrown in to make it work financially.

After this reports came out Rondo responded to all the trade rumors.

“I’m doing all right. Like they say it’s part of the business. I’m happy just playing basketball. I’m happy with the guys they surrounded with me, the coaching staff. Danny and I have talked quite a bit this year so his (best player on the team) is not new news to me. I don’t get discouraged when I hear my name in trade talks. Obviously that was big of Doc to come out with that statement but I know the relationship we have. It’s gotten better each year.”

Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers is tired of the Rondo trade rumors.

Rivers said Thursday afternoon he is irked by reports the Celtics were aggressively shopping his mercurial point guard and frustrated that his relationship with Rondo is being cited as one of the reasons Boston is willing to part with him.

“My relationship with Rajon is as strong as it has ever been,” he said. “Our communication has never been better. I want him here. I can say with almost 100 percent certainty he will be here with us when the season ends. I’m tired of this stuff. It’s not fair.”

For the season Rondo is averaging 13. 8 points, 10.1 assists, and 5.1 rebounds.

I do not get why the Celtics would trade Rondo. He might be the most complete point guard in all of the NBA. He is a has great speed and quickness, is an excellent defender, great passer, and can get to the rim. He only really struggles at shooting the ball, but that’s why you have other teammates. I would not trade Rondo. If you want to win in the NBA you need an elite point guard. The Celtics need to keep Rondo he is just entering his prime. If they do trade Rondo they better get a lot in return for him.

If they trade Rondo you will see when he is gone what he meant to this team. Just look what happened when the Celtics traded Kendrick Perkins, there season went down the drains.
