I know this was an All Star game where the players aren’t playing all out and no defense but still this was a pretty entertaining game that came down to the wire. In the end Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant outdueled LeBron James to give the Western Conference the 152-149 win. This game even drew some blood when Dwayne Wade fouled Bryant
Durant was the MVP of the game scoring 36 points.
Bryant, playing in his 14th straight All Star game now has a record over the best basketball player of all time Michael Jordan. Bryant’s 27 points give him the most career points in the All Star game passing Jordan.
The East were led by the two Miami Heat stars LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. James finished with 36 points and Wade had a triple double.
The Eastern Conference cut into a 21 point deficit to one point with 18 seconds left. Then down two Deron Williams missed a three and James had a bad turnover. Once again James failing in the clutch sorry I couldn’t resist.
Other top scores in the game where Russell Westbrook with 21 points, Blake Griffin with 22 and Kevin love with 17 for the West. For the East Deron Williams had 20 and Carmelo had 19.
Quotes from Durant and James after the game.
Kevin Durant
“It’s just exciting to be named to All-Star, but to step it up to another level and become MVP, it’s only something that as a kid you dream about.”
“After the first quarter,” Durant said, when asked when he thought the MVP might be within reach. “You know, I had a rhythm going. Guys were feeding me. I hit a few shots, and I was being aggressive. We had a good lead, as well. I had an idea that I can get the award, but with so many great players on the floor, you never know what can happen. But I’m glad I’m taking it home.”
LeBron James
“Yeah, he was telling me to shoot it,” James said. “I seen my teammate open for a split second, I told him I seen him open the first time and I didn’t release the ball. When I tried to throw it late, that’s what usually happens and it results in a turnover. Definitely wish I could have that one back.”
“I can’t turn the ball over like that,” James said. “I let my team down, but overall it was a great weekend.”
