UCLA basketball has been down for the last couple of years on the court, and now there are reports that there have been major problems going on off the court also.
According to a report on CBS Los Angeles.com Sports Illustrated well release a negative article in their upcoming issue about UCLA basketball . This article can’t come at a worse time for Ben Howland, who is under pressure for not winning enough. The article is said to include an allegation of abuse and drug use by players under Howland tenure. The article is written by George Dohrmann. Dohrmann is an Pulitzer Prize winner.
Howland’s response on the upcoming article.
“Specifically, I can’t talk about any former player or student relative to anything having to do with that. We have a comprehensive drug policy here at UCLA where any time someone fails a drug test, I’m alerted, school’s alerted and player is alerted, and I think we have a good program in place for all teams to receive education and counseling and receive discipline.”
This is Ben Howland eight year at UCLA. After a rough first season at UCLA it didn’t take long for Howland do get things rolling. During his third year the Bruins lost to Florida in the national championship game. Then the next two years the Bruins made the final four . However, since the 2007-08 season the Bruins have done nothing in the NCAA tournament.
Another problem under Howland is players transferring out of the program. Just look UNLV best player right now is a UCLA transfer same with New Mexico’s and BYU’s best players. Look at this season too, Howland had to get rid of one of his better players. Howland I guess isn’t recruiting the right type of kid anymore.
Howland was on the hot seat , and now this article can’t make things any better. I see no way he survives after this season.
