Published on January 16, 2012 by Scott Shirley   ·   No Comments

Every Monday here at Roundballchat I will be releasing my top 25 power rankings. It’s now conference play, and the time that we separate the contenders from the pretenders.

Last Week Rankings

1. Syracuse – Syracuse continues to breeze through the Big East slate. They haven’t faced any of the top teams yet especially on the road.

2. Kentucky – The Wildcats are coming off an impressive road win at Tennessee. A tough Crimson Tide team comes to Kentucky this week.

3. Baylor- Could this be the week they finally lose a game? A trip to Kansas and Missouri comes to town. Pierre Jackson is the best JUCO transfer out there.

4. Missouri- Phil Pressey is one of the best point guards no one knows about. Tough trip at Baylor this week.

5. Duke –Beat a very scrappy Virginia team, now Florida State comes to Cameron Indoor this week.

6. North Carolina – The Tar Heels are coming off their worst loss in the Roy Williams era. Tough trip to play Virginia Tech this week.

7. Ohio State – Lost another game on the road to Illinois and the Buckeyes got their revenge by blowing out the Hoosiers.

8. Kansas– This Jayhawk team is flying under the radar. Can they give Baylor their first loss of the season this week?

9. Michigan State–The Spartans 15 game winning streak was snapped last week to Northwestern.

10. Indiana– The Hoosiers have lost 2 in a row. They still need to prove they can compete on the road.

11. Georgetown– The Hoyas have an easy week ahead with DePaul and Rutgers.

12. Murray State– The Racers continue to roll by playing no one. They could go undefeated.

13. Creighton–Is Doug McDermott the national of the player of the year now?

14.San Diego State- Despite losing their top 4 scorers from last year this team is for real. They just beat a very good UNLV team at the buzzer.

15. Virginia- The Cavilers proved they are no fluke by almost winning at Duke last week.

16.UNLV– UNLV is coming off a very tough loss to a very good San Diego State team on the road.

17. Mississippi State– Arnett Moultrie get to know this name. He was a key part in MSU win over Alabama.
