Dwight Howard proves Shaq’s comments wrong

Published on January 21, 2012 by Scott Shirley   ·   No Comments

There shouldn’t even be a debate as to who is the best center in the NBA. The answer is Orlando Magic superman Dwight Howard. One person in the media doesn’t think Howard is the best center in the NBA.

The newly retired Shaquille O’Neal, who works for TNT said that Los Angeles center Andrew Bynum is the best center in the NBA not Howard.

On Friday night the two went head to head. The Magic beat the Lakers 92-80 and Howard schooled Bynum. For the game Howard had 21 points and 23 rebounds. While Bynum had only 10 points and 12 rebounds.

However, Shaq is most likely saying this because of a grudge that him and Howard have.

Here is what Howard said about the beef between him and Shaq.

“He’s mad about Superman,” Howard said, in reference to a nickname once used by O’Neal and co-opted by Howard for the 2008 Slam Dunk Contest. “I didn’t know he made it up. I didn’t know Superman came from Shaquille O’Neal… He’s still mad about it. I would suggest he just sit down and get on with his life. He don’t play no more so what’s the point of talking trash. It’s not like we’re wrestlers and we can battle it out. Who cares?”

Charles Barkley even called out Shaq for his comments.

If you look at both of there stats this year it is pretty clear who the better player is.

FGM FG%             ORB DRB TRB AST STL BLK     PTS
1 Andrew Bynum           6.8 .529             3.7 10.1 13.8 1.4 .6 0.6     16.3
2 Dwight Howard           7.5 .587             4.1 11.5 15.6 2.4 1.4 1.4     20.1

As you can see Howard is averaging more points, rebounds, steals, assists and blocks per game than Bynum.  He is also shooting better from the floor.

So far in his career Howard is a 5-time All-Star, 3-time Defensive Player of the Year, 4-time All-NBA first team and Bynum has none of that.

Come on Shaq don’t let personal grudges get into your analyst role.  Howard is the best center in the NBA and it is not even close.
