College basketball is upon us. With no NBA it is the only game in town. So who are the best players this year in college basketball? Over the next couple of days I will release my top 10 players at each position.
1. John Jenkins, Vanderbilt (19.5 ppg) (6-4/215, Jr.)
Jenkins led the SEC in scoring last season. Jenkins can flat out shoot the basketball; he has unlimited range. Made 3.1 3-pointers per game last season. Has an underrated mid range game.
2.Jeremy Lamb, Connecticut (11.1 ppg) (6-5/180, Soph.)
Became a star in Uconn’s run to the title last year. One word to describe his offensive game is smooth. Lamb also averaged 4.5 rebounds.
3.Ashton Gibbs, Pittsburgh (16.8 ppg) (6-2/190, Sr.)
Is one of the best shooters in the nation in not the best. He shot 49% from behind the arch last season.
4.Marcus Denmon, Missouri (16.9 ppg) (6-3/185, Sr.)
He scored in double figures 30 times out of 34 games last season. He also shot an impressive 44.8 % from deep. He also ranked 3rd in the Big 12 in steals. He also recorded 3.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists.
5. Austin Rivers, Duke (6-4,200, Fr.)
Is the son of Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers. Most services rated Rivers as the best freshman in America. Rivers is a flat out scorer who can score in multiple ways.
6.Jorge Gutierrez, California (14.6 ppg) (6-3/195, Sr.)
Gutierrez led the Bears in points, steals (1.6) and assists (4.5) last season. Also had 3.8 rebounds. Was both on the All Pac 10 1st team as well as defensive team. He also knows how to get to the free throw line.
7. William Buford, Ohio State (14.6 ppg) (6-6/220, Sr.)
Buford is a deadly shooter that shot 44% from beyond on the arch last season. Also averaged 2.9 assists per game. Needs to attack the rim more.
8. Darius Johnson-Odom, Marquette (15.8 ppg) (6-2/215, Sr.)
Might be the most underrated player in the country. He is a hard worker who finds a way to score. Also averaged 3 rebounds and 2.4 assists.
9.Tim Hardaway, Michigan (13.9 ppg) (6-5/185, So.)
Is the son of former NBA star Tim Hardaway. He really came on late last season, and was Michigan’s leading scorer in Big Ten play. Excels at attacking the rim and mid range game.
10. Orlando Johnson, UCSB, (21.2 ppg) (6-5/205, Sr.)
One of the best flat out scorers in the nation. Besides being a scorer he also averaged 6.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists.
