College basketball is upon us. With no NBA it is the only game in town. So who are the best players this year in college basketball? Over the next couple of days I will release my top 10 players at each position.
1. Terrence Jones, Kentucky (15.7 ppg) (6-9/252, Soph.)
Was the top freshman in the SEC a year ago. Jones does a little bit of everything for the Wildcats. He led Kentucky in rebounds (8.8) and blocks (1.9), and almost led them in steals (1.1). Can also shoot the three.
2.John Henson , North Carolina (11.7 ppg) 6-10, 210, Jr.)
Henson was the ACC Defensive Player of the year last season. He also led the ACC in blocks (3.2) and rebounds (10.1). He also averaged a double double which is impressive.
3. Perry Jones, Baylor (13.9 ppg) (6-11/235, Soph.)
Jones was the first player at Baylor ever to earn Freshman All-America honors. To go along with his points he also averaged 7.2 rebounds. Jones is a top 5 player nationally and the preseason favorite to be Big 12 Player of the Year. Jones may be tall, but he plays like and has the skills of a guard.
4.Draymond Green, Michigan State (12.6 ppg) (6-7/230, Sr.)
Is a unique big man, who led his team in assists (4.1) and rebounds (8.6) last season. He also had 1.8 steals and 1.1 blocks. Expect some triple doubles this season.
5. Trevor Mbakwe, Minnesota (13.9 ppg) (6-8/245, Sr.)
He led the Big Ten in rebounding last year averaging 10.5 rebounds per game. His offensive game is just coming into his own. His field goal percentage last season was nearly 60%.
6. Doug McDermott, Creighton (14.9 ppg) (6-7/210, Soph.)
Doug plays for his dad at Creighton. He set the Missouri Valley record for scoring the most points as a freshman. Also averaged 7.2 rebounds and shot an impressive 40.5% from three.
7. Reeves Nelson, UCLA (13.9 ppg) (6-8/235, Jr.)
Led the Bruins in scoring and rebounding last season. Nelson is a double double machine; he averaged 9.1 rebounds. He also shot an impressive 56.7% from the field. Neslon plays with great energy
8.Thomas Robinson, Kansas (7.6 ppg) (6-9/237, Jr.)
Came off the bench last season, and was playing behind the Morris twins. He had better offensive and defensive rebounding numbers per minutes played than both of the Morris twins. Expect his numbers to double this season.
9.Tony Mitchell, Alabama (15.2 ppg) (6-6/210, Jr.)
Mitchell might be one of the most underrated players in the country. Despite being undersized he still averaged 7.1 rebounds. Also averaged more than 1 assist, steal and block per game.
10.Tim Abromaitis, Notre Dame (15.4 ppg) (6-8/236, Sr.)
Was the 2nd leading scorer and rebounder (6.1) on the Irish last season. Abromaitis can also stroke it from three. Shot 42.9 % from three last season.
