North Carolina and NC State add top Recruits

Published on October 4, 2011 by Scott Shirley   ·   1 Comment

Time again for another recruiting report. I will keep this a weekly thing. There were two big commits this past week. All these players I am updating on are the class of 2012 meaning they will be playing in college during the 2012-13 season

Rodney Purvis (North Carolina State)– Purvis is a five star prospect, and is rated by Scout.com as the 5th best shooting guard in the country. Purvis plays his high school basketball in the city of Raleigh, which is the home of NC State. The first thing that stands out about Purvisis his athletic ability combined withhis speed and quickness. His strengthon offense is his driving ability and be able to finish at the rim withstrength. He is a flat out scorer. He can play both guard positions mainly because of his vision to pass the ball. Purvis needs to work on becoming a better shooter. This is a huge recruit for new head coach Mark Gottfried. If Gottfiredwants to compete with North Carolina and Duke he needs to get players like Purvis. It will take some time but hopefully for Wolfpack fans Gottfired keeps on bringing in elite players.

Joel James (North Carolina)– Scout.com ranks James as the 16th best center in the country. James plays his high school basketball in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. James biggest attribute is his size. He is 6’10”  and weighs about 280 pounds. James also has a big wingspan that allows his to block shots. James is a very dominant rebounder, thanks to his great strength. James needs to work on his offensive game especially his post moves, but he does have very good hands. James also needs to work on his conditioning. What a shock North Carolina is bringing in another top player: Roy Williams and company just reload. The Tarheelsare the favorite to win it all this season, and with players like James they keep on bringing in more and more talent.
