Published on October 14, 2011 by Scott Shirley   ·   No Comments

College basketball is right around the corner. Games will be starting in a month or so, and practices are starting soon. College basketball might be the only game in town, which will give even more attention to the college game. I can’t wait for this upcoming season.

Here at Roundballchat I will release my top 100 teams for the 2011-12 college basketball season. I will start at 100 and count my way down. I will rank all the 74 programs in the six major conferences, as well as 26 mid majors in my top 100 countdown. This month I will continue my college basketball previews with top players and match ups and much more; I am just finishing my conference power rankings.

Who will put at number 1? North Carolina or Kentucky or maybe a surprise stay tuned to Roundballchat for the next month to find out.

# 79. Dayton

Coach: Archie Miller (First season at Dayton),

2010-11 Record: 22-14 overall, 7-9 in A-10 (8th)

Starters returning (3) Josh Benson, Chris Johnson, Paul Williams

The Flyers have won at least 20 games for 4 straight years, but head coach Brian Gregory is now at Georgia Tech. In comes Archie Miller, his brother is well known for being the coach at Xavier and now Arizona. On the court they lose 2 of their top 3 scorers. The best returning player is small forward Chris Johnson (11.9 ppg). Johnson is a very athletic player that does a little bit of everything; he can also shoot it well. Ralph Hill is the back up here (1.1 ppg). Leading the way in the backcourt is Paul Williams (8.4 ppg); he is a deadly shooter. Look for Southern Illinois transfer Kevin Dillard to be the man at point guard. He scored it double figures both years at SIU. The Flyers have limited depth in the backcourt Josh Parker (7 ppg) is the only option here. Josh Benson (5.6 ppg) is the leader in the frontcourt at center he will need to score more. Luke Fabrizius (3.8 ppg) will start at power forward. The Flyers have plenty of depth here Matt Kavanaugh (1.9 ppg), Devin Oliver (1.4 ppg), and Alex Gavrllovic.
