One thing you haven’t heard about from the NBA lockout, is the stars of the league speaking out. Sure they might talk about it here and there but they are not constantly speaking out. I feel as a lot more key players spoke out about the NFL lockout.
The only news that you here coming from these stars, are about them playing overseas during the lockout of playing in summer league games. You don’t here them talking about putting an end to the lockout.
Well, now the point guard of the Washington Wizards John Wall thinks the stars of the NBA should speak out about the lockout. Keep in mind Wall just finished up his first season in the NBA. At a recent event Wall told Michael Lee of the Washington Post the following.
“I think we’re going to have to have guys like Kobe [Bryant], LeBron, the face of the NBA, to step up and say something,” said Wall, who was in Las Vegas this week when National Basketball Players Association President Derek Fisher and executive director Billy Hunter updated the players on the labor impasse. “Derek Fisher and those guys are doing a great job, but I just want it to be over. I can’t really say too much. I only have one year under my belt. . . . I just want to sit back, learn and listen and see what’s going on during the meetings.”
I agree 100 % with Wall. James and Bryant need to be heard from. These are the guys that need to be talking with the owners. If the stars speak out against the lockout, that will put more pressure on the owners to get a deal done, because there will be more pressure from the fans. In a previous workout stoppage during the 1998 the CBA was finally agreed upon after star NBA players and owners met.
Now will James and Bryant do what Wall suggested they do? I really don’t see that happening in the near future, but maybe when it’s the New Year and we are still in a lockout they will speak up. Only time will tell.
