Time again for another recruiting report. I will keep this a weekly thing. There were five big commits this week. All these players I am updating on are the class of 2012 meaning they will be playing in college during the 2012-13 season.
Danuel House and Danrad Knowles (Houston)- Coach James Dickey gets two huge commitments from right in his backyard; both players are from Houston. House is the better recruit of the two; he is ranked by Scout.com as the 7th best shooting guard in the country. He is a big time scorer, who can light in up from the three point line. He also is a great athlete with great length. He needs to work on his ball-handling skills, and he needs to get stronger. He was a big get for Dickey; House also had offers from Kansas, Ohio State, and Texas. Knowles is ranked the 16th best power forward by Scout.com. He is a very skilled player for his size. He can make the wide open jump shoot, and take his player off the dribble. He needs to get stronger, and work on improving his post moves. Houston needs to get back to being a regular in the Ncaa tournament, these two kids will help that happen. All do the glory days of Houston basketball seem so long ago.
Adam Woodbury (Iowa)– This a huge pick up by the Hawkeyes and head coach Fran McCaffery. This is also a big deal because Woodbury is an Iowa kid, other Iowa stars Harrison Barnes and Marcus Paige have gone to North Carolina. Scout.com ranks Woodbury as the 14thbest center in the country. He is a true center, with great post moves, and soft hands. Woodbury also runs and rebounds well. He needs to get a lot quicker and work on his defense. I really liked Fran McCaffery at Sienna, now he is rebuilding the Hawkeyesprogram with players like Woodbury the Hawkeyes will be aiming at the NCAA tournament in a couple of years.
Alex Caruso (Texas A&M)- Scout.com ranks Caruso as the 14th best shooting guard in the country. He is from College Station, Texas, which is the home of Texas A&M University. Caruso is a versatile player that can play multiple guard spots. His best assets is his vision and passing ability. Caruso is a good shooter especially from the mid range. He is also a pretty good athlete that can attack the rim. He needs to gain weight and get stronger. This is a big recruit for new head coach Billy Kennedy; if he can continue to recruit top recruits out of Texas he will be just fine. He also got J-Mychal Reese a top point guard.
Jerami Grant (Syracuse) – Grant comes from the very well known program Dematha Catholic in Maryland. With Syracuse going to the ACC now; he will get to play a lot of games close to home. Grant is rated as the 10th best power forward in the country. Grant can play both small and power forward. He is a very skilled offensive player. He can score in a variety of ways whether it’s the jump shot, beating his guy off the dribble or scoring in the post. Grant needs to add strength and work on his defense. What else is new the Orangemen are brining in another top player. They will continue to be a top 10 program.
