The start of the NBA season is getting closer and closer, but the lockout is starting to force some changes in the NBA calendar. With each day that goes by without a labor deal there will be more cancellations on the calendar.
On Friday the NBA announced that 43 preseason games have been canceled. Those games were scheduled from October 9th to 15th.
The deputy commissioner of the NBA, Adam Silver, released this statement.
“We have regretfully reached the point on the calendar where we are not able to open training camps on time and need to cancel the first week of preseason games. We will make further decisions as warranted.”
The only other time the NBA had a work stoppage (1998) the NBA canceled the preseason. They canceled the preseason on October 6th, 1998. That season there were only 50 regular season games.
As I have said before, this lockout is ten times worst than the NFL lockout. The owners and players are that far apart. I wouldn’t be shocked if there is no season at all. If there is a season, I would guess it wouldn’t be until the New Year.
A league source told Ric Bucher of ESPN The Magazine the following. The league offered the players 46 percent share of the basketball related revenue. That is 11 percent less of what the players got in the last deal. The 46 percent is also 7 percent less of what the players have proposed.
The owners and players are suppose to meet sometime next week, will it happen who knows.

Really disappointing, but I guess it was just a matter of time.
