St. Johns and Texas A&M bring in top Players

Published on August 7, 2011 by Scott Shirley   ·   No Comments

Time again for another recruiting report, I had one last week. I will try to keep this a weekly thing. This week there were two big commitments. All these players I am updating on are the class of 2012 meaning they will be playing in college during the 2012-13 season.

A lot of the top players in the class of 2012 have not committed to a school yet. In fact, of the Scout.com top 25; only 3 have committed to a school. There have been a lot of AAU tournaments lately so players have been busy with that, but some of them still had time to make their college choices.

Ricardo Gathers (2012) St. Johns – Head coach Steve Lavin is recruiting all over the country as Gathers plays his high basketball for Reserve Christian School in Louisiana. Gathers is a power forward; Scout.com ranks him as the 7th best power forward in the country. Gathers already has a NBA body, he uses his strength and size to finish strong around the rim. He also has a strong mid range game. He needs to work on his outside shooting and his ball handling. Gathers is the first commit for St. Johns in 2012, but Lavin brought in a top 5 class for 2012. If Lavin keeps on bringing in top recruits he will have St. Johns basketball back to the glory days.

J-Mychal Reese (2012) Texas A&M – Reese decided to stay home and play his college ball in state; he’s from Bryan Texas. Scout.com ranks Reese as the 5th best point guard in the nation. Reese is just knows how to score the basketball; he also has deep range on his shot. He needs to get stronger and work on his passing. This is a big recruit for new head coach Billy Kennedy; if he can continue to recruit top recruits out of Texas he will be just fine.

Other Commits this week

Calaen Robinson SG Arizona State

Patrick Holloway PG George Mason

Sanjay Lumpkin SG Northwestern

Chris Bolden SG Georgia Tech
