The NBA released the 2011-12 schedule a week ago or so. The schedule came out despite the NBA owners and players being in a labor dispute. Who knows when the lockout will end? All I know is that it will be nasty and I don’t think the season will start on time, and there are many experts saying that the whole season could be missed. So if the lockout continues many of the scheduled games won’t take place, I have no idea how the NBA will handle the schedule then. I think it’s smart for the NBA to release the schedule now since it creates buzz and the hype machine even though the league is still in a lockout.
So don’t get too excited with the release of the schedule , but anyways here are my top 10 games in the month of January.
1. Bulls at Heat (Jan. 19th) - This will be a rematch of the Eastern Conference Finals, in which the Heat dominated. The problem for the Bulls is they only have 1 superstar compared to the three from the Heat. We will find out if the Bulls have gotten better.
2. Knicks at Heat (Jan. 27th) - Wow, this game will feature a ton of star players and will be a must watch game. You got LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh of the Heat, and Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire of the Knicks. Which superstar will steal the show?
3. Spurs at Thunder (Jan. 8th) - This game is all about the old and the new. The Spurs have been one of the teams to beat in the west for a while now, but they are getting old. The Thunder are the team of the future; with superstar Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook.
4. Nets at Jazz (Jan. 19th) - Last year Deron Williams was traded to the Nets from the Jazz midseason. So as you would guess the Jazz fans will be all over Williams. As of now the Jazz are still a better team that the Nets.
5. Spurs at Heat (Jan. 17th) - The Heat want to be the Spurs of the past by winning NBA championships. The Spurs were never that team that drew attention to themselves, maybe the Heat can learn something from that.
6. Knicks at Thunder (Jan. 16th) – Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony will be going head to head; who will steal the show? These two will likely guard each other and go head to head.
7. Magic at Boston (Jan. 23rd) - In the past these two teams have had some great playoff battles. Now though the Magic are on the downhill, and the Celtics are getting old. Will these two teams get better so that they can make a run in the east, because the Heat and Bulls are clearly better.
8. Spurs at Grizzlies (Jan. 3rd) - This is a rematch of an exciting western conference first round match up from last year in which the Grizzlies upset the Spurs.
9. Pacers at Bulls (Jan. 4th) – Last year in the first round of the playoffs the Bulls gave the Pacers a battle, but weren’t able to finish. I think the Pacers have the potential to be a really good team; this will be a good test versus one of the top teams in the east.
10. Kings at Jazz (Jan. 30th) – The much talked about Jimmer Fredette returns to the state of Utah where he played college ball at BYU. Many people in Utah wanted the Jazz to take the Jimmer.
