Just a couple days ago I wrote an article about which college teams are going to be playing in exhibition games in foreign countries. Georgetown was one of those teams. I wrote how it was a positive for most teams. Well, in the game in China last night the game was called because of a brawl that took place.
Head coach of Georgetown John Thompson III pulled his players off the court in the 4th quarter with the Bayi Rockets a Chinese professional team the game was tied at 64. It all started in the 4th quarter when Hu Ke fouled Georgetown’s Jason Clark hard. The two started pushing each other, then both bench cleared and the brawl began. There were many other incidents leading up to this in the game they probably caused the brawl.
The fans go into throwing stuff onto the court; one Georgetown player was hit with a chair, but there were no serious injuries. This could have been a lot worst.
Thompson III issued the following statement after the game:
“Tonight, two great teams played a very competitive game that unfortunately ended after heated exchanges with both teams. We sincerely regret that this situation occurred. We remain grateful for the opportunity our student-athletes are having to engage in a sport they love here in China, while strengthening their understanding of a nation we respect and admire at Georgetown University.”
