Time again for another recruiting report. I will keep this a weekly thing. This week there were a lot more commits. All these players I am updating on are the class of 2012 meaning they will be playing in college during the 2012-13 season.
A lot of the top players in the class of 2012 have not committed to a school yet. In fact, of the Scout.com top 25; only 3 have committed to a school. The AAU tournaments have ended so prospects have time to make their college choices now.
Steve Taylor Marquette– Taylor is a power forward, who Scout.com ranks as the 13th best in the nation. He is from Simeon Vocational high school in Chicago. Taylor is a great athlete and rebounder, and he can shoot it for a big guy. He needs to work on his ball handling and just become stronger. Taylor is the third commit for Marquette so far; Marquette head coach Buzz Williams is a great recruiter as long as he is there Marquette will be a very competitive team. Look he got his team deep in the tournament this year faster than Marquette’s old coach who is now at Indiana.
Mike Gesell Iowa – Iowa getting a top recruit you don’t say that very often. Gesell is a point guard from South Sioux City high school in Nebraska. Scout.com ranks him as the 17 best point guard in the nation. His biggest strength is his shooting ability; he can also penetrate. He needs to work on getting stronger. I really liked Fran McCaffery at Sienna, now he is rebuilding the Hawkeyes program with players like Gesell the Hawkeyes will be aiming at the NCAA tournament in a couple of years.
Katin Reinhardt UNLV– This is a very big get for UNLV. Reinhardt is the 11th best shooting guard in the country; he is from the famous Mater Dei program in California. He is an outstanding shooter than can finish at the rim; he needs to work on his shot selection. Head coach Dave Rice has done a great job recruiting so far for UNLV. UNLV also has a top commit for the 2013 class. UNLV has been getting in the tourney lately but with recruiting like this they should be making deep runs in the tourney.
Issac Hicks (2013 recurit) North Carolina – Hicks is the first 2013 recruit in Scout.com top 25 players to commit to a school. Hicks plays his high school ball in Raleigh North Carolina. Scout.com ranks him as the 5th best power forward in the nation. What a shock North Carolina is bringing in another top player: Roy Williams and company just reload. Hicks is an outstanding athlete; he is a great finisher around the rim. He needs to work on his post moves and shots. He is just coming into his own now; he can be so much better.
