Scout.com top 100 high school Basketball players for the class of 2012

Scout.com came out with their top 100 high school basketball players for the class of 2012 this week. The kids of the class of 2012 will start playing in the fall of 2012. So to no surprise a lot of the players haven’t committed to a school yet; in fact only 41 of the top 100 recruits are committed to a school. Another fact of the top 25 recruits only 3 are committed to a school. So there is a lot of time left.

If your team is in need of a center; then it’s a good year for you because 6 of the top 10 players are centers. Team wise Indiana is leading the way with 4 commits in the top 100, followed by Virginia, Purdue, and Villanova with 3. Below is a list of commits by conference. Keep in mind basketball is a lot different that football some years some basketball teams bring in no players, because you only have 13 scholarships.

Top 5 Players

1. Shabazz Muhammad (NV) SG

2.Andre Drummond (CT) C

3. Isaiah Austin (TX) C commit to Baylor

4. Dajuan Coleman (NY) C

5. Mitch McGary (NH) C

ACC commits in the Top 100 (11)

Virginia –3, North Carolina –2, NC State-2, Wake Forest-2, Duke-1, Virginia Tech-1

Good to see Virginia with 3 top commits; they need to get back to the glory days of Virginia basketball. I think Tony Bennett is the right man for the job. New head coach at NC State Mark Gottfried needs to bring in top recruits if he wants to compete with UNC and Duke, and looks like he is doing a good job so far. UNC is the likely number 1 team in the nation, and they are continuing to reload with 2 top commits from the Midwest. Wake Forest has been awful lately, hopefully for them these 2 recruits in the top 100 will help them rebuild.

Big Ten commits in the Top 100 (11)

Indiana –4, Purdue-3, Michigan State-2, Michigan-1, Wisconsin-1

Indiana’s head coach Tom Cream has had three horrible seasons at Indiana all losing seasons. He really needs to bring in better talent, and he has done that for that class of 2012. Will Cream be able to keep his job before these players get to Indiana? Purdue loss a lot of elite seniors from this past season; head coach Matt Painter continues to bring in top talent. Michigan State had a down year last year for them, they will continue to reload.

Big East commits in the Top 100 (7)

Villanova-3, Notre Dame-1, Pitt-1, St.Johns-1, Uconn-1

I am surprised that the Big East only has 7 commits so far they have the most teams in their conference and they are called best conference in the country. Villanova continues to bring in local talent; all three of their commits are from the Philadelphia area. St. Johns had a top recruiting class last year, and they already have a top recruit for 2012.

SEC commits in the Top 100 (4)

Florida-2, Auburn-1, Mississippi State-1

It seems every year Florida and head coach Billy Donovan brings in elite players; the class of 2012 is no different. Good to see both Auburn and Mississippi State with each 1 commit it the top 100, these schools aren’t exactly basketball powers. Notice someone missing? Kentucky will probably have the best class in the SEC at the end.

Big 12 commits in the Top 100 (2)

Baylor-1, Texas-1

Although both Baylor and Texas have only 1 commit for the class of 2012 in the 100. Both of their commits are very highly rated. Baylor’s recruit Isaiah Austin is number 3 overall, and Texas recruit Cameron Ridley is 7th overall. How many recruits will Kansas have at the end?

Pac 12 commits in the Top 100 (2)

Arizona-1, UCLA-1

The Pac 12 or Pac 10 has been down lately in basketball. It’s good to see the conference two best programs have top commits for 2012, but the conference needs the other programs to bring in top talent and it doesn’t look like that is happening.

Other Conferences commits in the Top 100 (2)

Butler-1, Memphis-1
