Game 5 NBA Finals: Nowitzki and the Dallas guards come up big

Published on June 10, 2011 by Scott Shirley   ·   1 Comment

The Dallas Mavericks ended the game on 15-3 run to beat the Miami Heat 112- 103. Wow another choke job by the Heat. The Mavericks now have a 3-2 series lead. Remember though the Lakers were down 3-2 last year and then won 2 games in a row. Dirk Nowitzki was once again the man, but his teammates really came to play . All three of the Dallas guards had their best games in game 5. Center Tyson Chandler was also huge for the Mavericks. Here are my thoughts on game 5 for the Dallas Mavericks.

Nowitzki was money again like he’s been all playoffs long. He scored 29 points on 9 of 18 shooting from the field. He was again clutch in the 4th. With the game tied at 100, he beat his guy to the hoop and threw down a dunk; although that was his only field goal of the 4th quarter he also made 6 free throws. After that basket for Nowitzki the Mavericks went on a 10-3 run. Nowizki is now outscoring LeBron James in the 4th quarter of the NBA finals 52-11. Nowitzki is the real super star in this series, and playing like the best player in the league right now. That’s enough about Dirk; I can’t write about how great he is after every game, how about his teammates who came to play tonight.

The Dallas guards were money tonight. Jason Terry, Jason Kidd, and J.J. Barea came to play tonight they were a combined 10 for 15 from three.

Terry was on fire in the 4th quarter. He scored 21 points on 8 of 12 shooting, he also added 6 assists. He made 2 big three’s down the stretch. Before game 4 Terry did some trash talking, and now he is backing it up with his play. He owns LeBron James now; James has no answer for him on defense.

Kidd didn’t score at all last game, but this game he had 13 points and 6 assists. Kidd made the biggest three of the game, with the Mavs up 2, Kidd hit a three pointer to give the Mavs a 5 point lead with about a minute left in the game. Many people think Kidd is too old; I am not one of those people. He still has great quickness  as shown by his 3 steals. He is also playing excellent defense on Dwyane Wade.

Barea was also on fire tonight. He has really been struggling with the three, but in this game he made 4 of them. He may be short but the man can play. Although he didn’t do anything down the stretch he kept the Mavs in the game during the start of the 4th quarter. The Mavs guards won them the game tonight.

Can the Mavericks win one game in Miami to win the NBA Championship?
