The Dallas Mavericks tied the series 2-2 with an 86-83 win over the Miami Heat. Maverick’s star Dirk Nowitzki battled a temperature in the 100s, he struggled a lot, but when it mattered most he was clutch like always. Nowitzki got a lot of help from his teammates tonight. For the Heat Dwyane Wade showed up, but LeBron James didn’t. I have no idea what James was doing tonight. Here are my thoughts on game 4 for the Dallas Mavericks.
Say whatever you want to say about Dirk Nowitzki , but he is a gamer there is no denying that. Nowitzki had a temperature of 102, but he battled through it and still gave it his all. He came out hot making his first 3 baskets. Then for the rest of the game he was 3 of 16 from the field. Whether that was his sickness or just bad shooting we will never know. Nowitzki came up clutch at the end again, with the Mavs up 1 he drove to the basket and made a lay up to give the Mavs a 3 point lead with 14 seconds left in the game. That’s why he is such a great player even if he is having an off night, he still shows up when it matters the most. He had 21 points for the game 10 in the 4th. He was also 9 for 10 from the free throw line, and pulled down 11 rebounds.
In game 3 Nowitzki didn’t get help from his teammates in game 4 he got that help. Four other Mavericks scored in double digits. They were led by Jason Terry who scored 17 points, including 8 in the 4th quarter. He did some trash talking before the game, but he backed it up.
While Tyson Chandler only scored 13 points he might have been the key for the Mavs win. Besides the 13 points he added 16 rebounds, 9 of those were offensive. Those 9 offensive rebounds were key, and this allowed the Mavs to have extra possessions. As the playoffs began I said Chandler was the difference for the Mavericks from the 2006 team.
Shawn Marion had a lot better game in game 4 scoring 16 points on 7 for 12 shooting. DeShawn Stevenson, normally a starter, came off the bench and scored 11 points, including 3 big three pointers. Stevenson also played excellent defense on Dwyane Wade and LeBron James.
The Mavs play their final game at home next in game 5, they better win because they won’t win 2 games on the road in Miami.
