2011 NBA Draft Needs: Western Conference

Published on June 22, 2011 by Scott Shirley   ·   No Comments

With the 2011 NBA draft coming up soon, it’s time to look at the teams needs for the teams in the Western Conference.

Northwest Division

Denver Nuggets Needs: SF PF C

Their biggest need is at the power forward position with Kenyon Martin a free agent, and Al Harrington coming off an average season. The Nuggets also have a ton of other free agents to sign.

Minnesota Timberwolves Needs: SG C

The Timberwolves really need to improve at the shooting guard position; they need someone who can score Corey Brewer isn’t the answer.

Oklahoma City Thunder Needs: SF C

The Thunder really have all their pieces in places now they just need backups for Kevin Durant and Kendrick Perkins

Portland Trailblazers Needs: PG C

Portland needs help in the frontcourt; you cannot count on Greg Oden, and Marcus Camby is a free agent,

Utah Jazz Needs: PG SG C

The Jazz need to get better at shooting guard; Raja Bell, C.J. Miles, and Kyle Weaver aren’t the answer.

Pacific Division

Golden State Warriors Needs: SG C PF

The Warriors need a big tough center in the middle; this would allow David Lee to play the power forward position.

Los Angeles Clippers Needs: PG SF

The Clippers need to get better at the small forward position; Ryan Gomes is a good backup not a starter.

Los Angeles Lakers Needs: PG SG

Derrick Fisher was a great point guard, but he is way to old; the Lakers need a younger more athletic point guard.

Phoenix Suns Needs: PG SG PF

Steve Nash is a free agent and 38 years old; the Suns need a point guard of the future.

Sacramento Kings Needs: SG C

The Kings need more punch from their shooting guards; you can do better than Francisco Garcia.

Southwest Division

Dallas Mavericks Needs: PG SF

The Mavs need a point guard of the future; Jason Kidd is old and J.J. Barea is a free agent.

Houston Rockets Needs: SF C

The Rockets need a center, Yao Ming is just to injury prone and you can’t start a 6’6” Chuck Hayes at center.

Memphis Grizzlies Needs: SF C

Shane Battier is a free agent, and Rudy Gay is coming off a injury the Grizzlies could add a small forward or two.

New Orleans Hornets Needs: PG SG PF

The Hornets may trade star point guard Chris Paul if not he will be gone by free agency next season, they need a point guard of the future.

San Antonio Spurs Needs: PG SF C

Small Forward Richard Jefferson did not produce last season; they Spurs need to get younger and more athletic here.
