Doc Rivers is the new boss with the Los Angeles Clippers and you can already see the difference between him and the old coach Vinny Del Negro and the Clippers haven’t even played a game yet.
Here is what Rivers said to his best player point guard Chris Paul.
“As professional athletes, you always want someone to push you and motivate you,” Paul said via Yahoo! Sports. “The first meeting I had with Doc, he pretty much told me I wasn’t anything. He told me I hadn’t done anything in this league, and he was right. You don’t always want somebody that’s going to tell you what you want to hear.”
Said Paul: “One thing I learned about Doc is he is going to expect you to do certain things. He’s not going to baby us. He is going to treat us like men and he is going to give us that opportunity.”
Here is what Rivers had to say:
“I have coached a lot [of stars],” Rivers said. “I even coached Patrick Ewing, if you can believe that, and he was a teammate of mine. They’re different and they should be. They’re all great players.
“I don’t subscribe to the theory that they should all be treated the same. I think everyone is treated fairly, and that’s how I try to coach.”
Now Rivers needs to get into the ear of Blake Griffin to light a fire under him.
