Utah Jazz guard Devin Harris on the tradeblock : Lakers?

Published on March 1, 2012 by Scott Shirley   ·   No Comments

The NBA trade deadline is March 15 and the trade rumors are increasing. One of those players appears to be on the trading block is Utah Jazz point guard Devin Harris. This according to Brian T. Smith of the Salt Lake City Tribune .

The Jazz remain open to moving starting point guard Devin Harris, league sources said, and reserve small forward C.J. Miles could be made available in the right situation. But Utah continues to take a long-term approach in building its team after the Deron Williams trade last February, and the Jazz won’t make a move simply to pull the trigger.

Right now Harris is 29 years old and having his worst year as a pro since his rookie season. So far this season Harris is averaging 9.1 points and 4.5 assists per game. For his career Harris is averaging 13.1 points per game. So is it pretty clear Harris does not fit right in the Jazz’s system. So hence he is on the trade block.

Harris came to the Jazz last season with Derrick Favors in the Deron Williams trade.

Right now the Utah Jazz are 16-18 and have no chance at making the playoffs. They might have a chance to make the playoffs if they were in the Eastern Conference but they aren’t. So if they can make a trade for the future it makes sense.

One team that I think that should go after Harris is the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers clearly need a point guard if they want to go anywhere in the playoffs. Derek Fisher is too old and Steve Blake is a decent backup point guard. The Lakers need to get more athletic and faster in their backcourt something Harris would bring.

Only probably with Harris might be his contract. Is contract is worth $9.5 million and doesn’t expire until next season. Are the Lakers willing to pay for the contract? They got rid of $8.2 million by getting rid of Lamar Odom. If I were the Lakers I would go after Harris. The Lakers really need a point guard.

For Harris I think he is going to get traded somewhere hopefully for him it’s a contending team like the Lakers.
