Last night the Phoenix Suns went to Madison Square Garden and defeated the New York Knicks 91-88. In that game Suns point guard Steve Nash was the best player on the court. For the game he had 26 points and 11 assists. Could Nash be playing in a Knicks uniform next season?
There has been a ton of Steve Nash to the Knicks rumors over the last couple of years. It makes sense because former Sun’s coach Mike D’Antoni is the head coach of the Knicks. Also Nash former running mate Amar’e Stoudemire is also on the Knicks.
Don’t except Nash to get traded this season because he is not the type of player to force a trade. He will have his chance to go where ever he wants in free agency. Nash said the following about forcing a trade. “One, it’s not my style. Maybe I’m old school, but I feel like that’s not my place to give up on my team, give up on my teammates. I signed a contract and made a commitment.
According to the New York Post the Knicks are planning to make a run for Nash in free agency as well as two other point guards.
That’s why The Post has reported the Knicks plan to target Nash (along with Jameer Nelson and Raymond Felton) with this summer’s $5 million mid-level exception.
The Knicks really need a point guard so this makes a whole lot of sense. Besides defensive play the Knicks biggest weakness is point guard play. As a team the Knicks are only averaging 18 assists to 15 turnovers per game. Tony Douglass is not a point guard he is more of a shooting guard. Sadly Carmelo Anthony leads the Knicks in assists. So for the Knicks to get to the next level they need a true point guard.
If the Knicks can’t get Nash I really hope they go after Felton. He is one of the most underrated point guards in the NBA. Felton was a Knick last season and was having his best season as a pro but he got traded in the Anthony deal.
If the Knicks don’t fire their head coach I think Nash will be a Knick next season. Nash loves D’Antoni’s system. Despite getting up there in age Nash is still producing. He probably has two more good years left. Knick fans better hope Nash is wearing a Knick uniform next season.
