Kevin Love Playin another Sport : Glad Heat Lost

Published on July 29, 2011 by Scott Shirley   ·   1 Comment

Minnesota Timberwolves Kevin Love was the leading rebounder in the NBA last season, now he is going to try another sport. That sport is beach volleyball, why not with the NBA in a lockout. Love will compete in next month’s Manhattan Beach Open on the pro volleyball tour.

Love’s thoughts on playing beach volleyball; “I thought it was a great idea, a way for me to be out in the sun, be active and have fun during the lockout. It’s sport, it’s active, it’s a way to stay in shape, so I just thought it was a home run.”

This event will be held from August 26th –28th and is a 200,000 dollar event. Love played his college basketball at UCLA, and has grown up on the west coast. Volleyball is a big sport out on the west coast. So I am sure Love has played before.

Love is big and athletic so that should not be a problem for him, the problem he will have is with positioning and the basic volleyball skills. If he practices for a while he can get a whole lot better.  Am I expecting him to win, no, but I bet he will do well.

Love’s thoughts on maybe hurting himself playing. “That’s the elephant in the room right now, but at the same time it’s like with basketball. If you go out there and play hard most of the time, you’re not going to get hurt. If you’re loafing and not going 100%, then you’re more likely to suffer.” I completely agree with him. You can get hurt doing anything, so just go out there and have fun.

It wasn’t only Cleveland Cavs fans rooting for the Miami Heat too lose; it was also a majority of the players. Kevin Love was on WFAN radio in New York to talk basketball and volleyball. During that interview he was asked if NBA players enjoyed the Heat losing to the Dallas Mavericks in the finals. The following is his response thanks to Sports Radio Interviews.

” Oh yeah, great amount of joy out of it. Plus, for me, they say nice guys, good guys finish last. But Dallas, they just had a slew of great guys and veterans on their team that made for just a great team. It wasn’t just two, three, four guys on the team, like Miami I kind of felt it was. Around the league, it was kind of a consensus that guys were happy.”

I was glad that the Mavs won also, I would much rather see a true team win, than a team with a couple of super stars.
